The firm’s work reflected Gould’s studies at the Parisian École des Beaux-Arts, at a time when many of Seattle’s architects learned the trade through apprenticeships with established firms. Gould’s drawing plans were seen as stylistically unique and eclectic.

As such, he held leadership roles in the Seattle Fine Arts Society, Architectural League of the Pacific Coast and the Washington chapter of American Institute of Architects.

Gould also founded and was the first chair of the architecture department at the University of Washington.

Gould’s Beaux-Arts training informed the curriculum. With Gould’s connections, Bebb & Gould won the commission for the University of Washington’s campus plan.
